My name is Caroline Smith (she/her), a 1L at St. Mary’s Law in San Antonio, TX.
I’ve been a wheelchair user all my life, so accessibility and accommodation challenges have always been very apparent to me. But, my decision to seriously pursue a legal career really didn’t begin until college. I participated in a study abroad program, which included a frustrating fight for my accommodation requests to be respected and often even acknowledged at all. But, through this experience, I learned the importance of true advocacy and the significance it holds in not only my life, but also in the lives of others.
Thus, by volunteering with NDLSA, I hope to empower disabled law students by providing and learning about advocacy tools/resources available to us to bring about systematic change within law school and beyond.
